‘Brands don’t get any stronger’, reads the promotional material on the Pizza Hut Franchise website. Moving stuff, but all the more interesting given the news that Pizza Hut is to change the name of 30 of its UK outlets to ‘Pasta Hut’ in a bid to boost its healthy image. A statement from the company said Pizza Hut was trying to lure back certain customers who had stopped eating at the chain in recent years. Perhaps the brand isn’t what it’s cracked up to be?
This may be of concern for some franchisees. Pizza Hut’s first UK franchise was opened in Islington, North London, in 1973. Now that many town centre ‘flagship’ stores are to undergo a name change though, there’s the chance that other branches could suffer disruption. What do you think? Would you be pleased if your company changed the name of certain outlets but left you with the original ‘tired’ name?
